Nobody deserves to be forgotten

Both 2019 and 2020 will be remarkable years. During these years, people from all over the world will commemorate and celebrate the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II. The end of the war in the Netherlands came closer when U.S. soldiers crossed the border near the town of Mesch on September 12, 1944, which became the first town to be liberated. However, it would take until May 5, 1945 before the country was fully liberated. And that liberation came at a heavy price for those who fought for it. That is why we will say thank you to our American liberators who have been buried in the Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial in the town of Margraten. We pay tribute to them by decorating their graves and names on the Walls of the Missing with a photo in 2021. Join us in our quest for the missing faces and help to remember to those who sacrificed their all for our freedom.

Next The Faces of Margraten Planned for May 2018

As the end of World War II becomes more distant, ABMC cemeteries, in coordination with local organizations, create and host unique tributes to the men and women honored at these sites. To ensure the emotional impact and draw for visitors remain strong and events like this are not considered common-place, some events are not hosted annually. Additionally, due to the amount of resources necessary to conduct this type of event, volunteer hours and fiscal support can be best utilized when events are held biennially. The next Faces of Margraten is planned for May 2018. There will be no Faces of Margraten in 2017.

IMG 0502 2The Faces of Margraten, organized by the Stichting Verenigde Adoptanten Amerikaanse Oorlogsgraven (SVAAO), is working to bring a face to every headstone and name inscribed on the Tablets of the Missing at Netherlands American Cemetery. The previous Faces of Margraten events have been huge successes, and both the SVAAO and the cemetery want this event to remain a solemn tribute to our fallen that attracts visitors from far away. To date SVAAO has collected more than 4,800 photos, and is always collecting new images. Submit a photo of your loved one for inclusion in the next Faces of Margraten event.

Confirmed dates for the Faces of Margraten 2018 will be released next year.
